Profile Essentials
Profile Setup: Your First Step
Let’s take a closer look at the first menu a user encounters: Profile Setup.
Here you’re asked to take a profile picture. For some, it’s just a quick snapshot; for others, it’s an important image that reflects personality.
The main idea: your profile picture should make you recognizable. It builds trust by showing your real look so others can identify you if they meet you in person. 👉 We’ve created a full page with best practices:
There are many fields to fill out, but only a few are required—and none are shared until you choose to. Two fields are locked: Full Name and Date of Birth. Why? Because this is where security begins to make sense.
The app retrieves your Name, Date of Birth, and Gender from trusted eID systems (MitID [DK] and BankID [SE]). This prevents multiple accounts from being created. Even if an account is deleted, it will be recreated when you access your profile, and all ratings and connections will return.
Some data, like Full Name, Date of Birth, and Address, can be toggled to show Short Name, Age, or Location for those who prefer sharing fewer details. We call this the “I’ll share mine if you share yours” principle.
Your data is stored only in your account. You can always see who you’ve shared specific information with and revoke access at any time.
By long‑pressing a field label, you’ll see a pop‑up list of who you’ve shared that particular data with. From here, you can also revoke access. Remember: it works both ways—if you remove someone you’ve shared your address with, you’ll no longer see their address either.
All personal data in your profile is instantly updated for all your relations you’ve shared it with. That means your information is automatically refreshed in their address book—and theirs in yours. You’ll always have an up‑to‑date contact list without manual updates. A feature many will appreciate.
In many situations, especially dating, it’s important to know the age of the people you engage with. This value is locked in your profile and cannot be altered. You can choose to display your exact Date of Birth or just your Age.
This is where your Cards come in. Share a card as a six‑character code or QR code with the data relevant to your interaction. If the other person already has the Handzhake app, they can enter the code. If not, they can scan the QR code, which guides them through installation and adds the relation. It’s also a great way to invite trusted contacts onto the app and into your always‑updated address book.
You can be rated on five parameters: Trustworthiness, Responsiveness, Trade, Cooperation, and Punctuality. Each rating matters in different scenarios. For example, Trustworthiness and Trade are key in buy/sell situations. Strong ratings prove you’re reliable and fair. Your real‑life attitude becomes an online parameter—this is how trust is built.
Additional personal information such as Children, Height, or Blood Type simply adds more context about you. These details may appear on certain preset cards. 👉 Learn More About Cards
Each field has a toggle switch. Turn it on or off as you prefer.
Full Name → tri‑state toggle: show Full Name, Short Name, or hide it.
Date of Birth → choose between showing the full date, just your age, or nothing.
Address → choose between Home Address, Location, or hide it.
Note: These toggles apply to all your relations. If you want to customize sharing for specific people, use the Shared With function by long‑pressing the field label.

In Handzhake, we use the word Relations instead of Contacts and there’s a reason for that. A Relation is someone you actually interact with, someone you share more than just a phone number or an email. Relations are different, which is why you can share preset cards that hold information based on the type of connection you have: friends, family, work, or basic information just for online trading.
With each Relation, you stay in full control. You can regularly check what information you’re sharing, and you always know it’s up‑to‑date. When a Handzhake user updates their profile, the changes instantly sync across every Relation that has access to that information. Your Relations always have reliable, real‑time data – and you don’t have to lift a finger.
You can easily upgrade or downgrade individual fields using toggles or send a new card whenever you want to adjust what you share.
Handzhake also makes it simple to bring in people you already know. Import contacts who are already using Handzhake and never worry about outdated information again. The step‑by‑step import flow gives you full control over who you bring into your Relations and who you don’t.
